Avanti Hampers 2016

The parents and children of Avanti House have once again demonstrated characteristics of love and generosity for the annual Avanti Hampers event. The team were overwhelmed with the generous voluntary donations, with gifts consisting of perfumes, scarves, toys, chocolates and more.  In total, over 150 individual gifts were wrapped and 9 large hamper were arranged.

The first stop for the delivery of the Avanti Hampers was the Children’s Ward at Northwick Park Hospital.  Here, 16 enthusiastic Avanti House children were overwhelmed by the buzz and excitement of the busy and complex hospital environment.  The children maintained exceptional behavior and took a real pleasure in gifting the toys and asking interesting questions.  They showed the beauty of unselfish giving, being content and not having any expectation to receive anything in return.

The next day, the hamper team set off with another 17 children to visit Kestrel Grove Nursing Home.  Here, the management and residents warmly welcomed the Avanti children, who positively spread the joy of Christmas through their fantastic singing, glowing smiles and giving each resident and carer their own, individual festive hamper. The pupils were treated to delicious home-baked cakes and truly enjoyed the experience of ‘giving’, truly embedding the virtues of ‘respect’ and ‘appreciation’ for their elders.

The third and final stop was the Harrow Carers Organisation, who provide support and advice to those that care for anyone in the community.  Here the Avanti children had an opportunity to meet and talk to carers, some of which were as young as 11.  The children thoroughly enjoyed singing festive songs and again gifting beautiful  hampers to individuals. They also has the opportunity to select a small gift to take home, which brought smiles all round.

As a community, we should be extremely proud at how we have worked together to bring a smile on the faces of the children at the hospital, the residents at the care home, and the carers at the Harrow Carers.  Let’s continue to spread the fantastic work we are all doing and get people talking about our school in our wider community! Success for our children has no limits.
