FOAH brought the magic of the big screen to Avanti House Primary School. This event, led by Gaurang & Sharla (active volunteers of FOAH), was hosted over three Friday evenings. Each of the films were voted in by children in their respective classes and the event was hosted free of charge. Ticket bookings averaged at 97% per class!!
The event kickstarted with Year 3 and 4 and a screening of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Cozy in onesies, pyjamas and blankets, over a hundred children were ushered in and photographed like celebrities & invited into the hall and quickly settled down to watch the movie on a giant screen, installed on the day by FOAH volunteers.
For all the shows, stinky cheese and snozzcumbers were off the menu, with children tucking into a scrumdiddlyumptious snack bag, consisting of a juice carton, crisps, a chocolate bar, fruit and cartons of fresh gourmet popcorn. Our team of volunteers were on hand to ensure a smooth, safe & happy evening. A nearby room was provided for parents where they could mingle whilst enjoying tea and biscuits, though many took this opportunity for a Friday night meal out!
All the moviegoers came out relaxed and happy, and the experience was very well received, with messages of appreciation pinging away into the late evening! Look out for these comments along with the wonderful photos on FOAH FaceBook page.
The following week, with a “Sorry, Mom, Dad, I’ve got a job to do”, the Reception children eagerly took their seats and enjoyed The Lego Movie. After two hours of fun and feasting, the children were collected, with shouts of “Awesome” and “We are from the planet Duplo, and we’re here to destroy you” marking another success.
The film fest concluded last week with a real phizzwizard, The BFG movie, for Years 1 and 2, celebrating the end of SATs exams for the older classes. Though a few of the younger children felt the presence of a trogglehumper, most declared the film “gloriumptious”, and a winner! The whole hall erupted with chants of BFG BFG BFG – it was magical to see so many happy smiling faces!!
Not ones to gobblefunk with words, we end with a quote from Jeff Kinney, Diary of a Wimpy Kid “You can’t expect everyone to have the same dedication as you.” And with that, we thank Ms. Pandya, Mr. Halliday, Mr Manners, Mr Craig, Ms Nanda, Ms Natha, Ms Halai, Ms Jani, Ms Suku, Ms Karsan, Ms Parmar, and all the FOAH volunteers who helped put on the event and bring smiles to 260 little faces.
For those children who could not attend, look out for our next exciting events!
As always, a huge thank you to all the sponsors who enabled FOAH to put on this event for three nights, free of charge. PopCorn Planet (Mahesh & Neena Karia) for donating 9kgs of popcorn for all the children and volunteers, Greenford Mandir for providing 400 packs of delicious Kolak crisps, and Yagneshbhai Nakarja for lending us the projector & screen which really gave the event a ‘big screen’ feel.
