Friends of Avanti House (FOAH) is a group of parents and staff. Its overall purpose is to organise fundraising activities to support the school. We also assist the school when needed. It is an excellent way to bring staff, parents, children and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal.
It is not a parent council and we do not discuss issues that may arise within the school. If parents feel they do have an issue, we ask they raise it with their class teacher or the Parents Staff Advisory Group (PSAG).
FOAH is Charity Registered - Charity Registration Number 1163701
FOAH is registered with Parentkind UK.
We the members of FOAH are extremely conscious of the ethos and morals of our school and we respect this when organising events.
FOAH is fully accountable to the school and parents providing:
The FOAH core committee is structured as per the guidelines of the ParentKind. Parentkind sets out the rules and procedures by which the committee members govern the association. As members of Parentkind we have access to a model constitution. The members have agreed that we would adopt this. Members have signed and dated this documents and it is kept in the FOAH file.

A copy of the constitution (unsigned) can be downloaded here (last updated May 2017 to reflect change for constitution name from Avanti House School to Avanti House Primary School). If you would like to know more about FOAH and can’t find the information you require, please email us at [email protected] and we would be happy to answer your questions.
Members are not legally responsible for the actions of the association. It is the elected committee members who are legally responsible for the management of the association.
During the inaugural board meeting it was decided that Avanti House Primary School will be supported by a Parents Teacher Association. The term will be 2 years.
Committee is a team of volunteers who are elected at the association’s AGM to manage the association on behalf on behalf of the members.
The Executive Committee consists of: Officers and Ordinary Committee members. Officers have specific roles such as Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary . These officers make up the board and are also members of the FOAH charity. Ordinary Committee Members play a vital role working alongside and supporting the board.
All members of Executive Committee have equal voting rights, with the exception of the Chair, who has an additional casting vote, should this be needed.
Chair - provides leadership for the committee, sets the agenda for the meetings and manages meetings in line with the agenda.
Vice Chair – supports the chair and takes the lead in their absence
Secretary / Assistant Secretary– is responsible for requesting items for the committee meetings agenda, taking and distributing minutes.
Treasurer / Assistant Treasurer – is responsible for day to day admin of financial records and procedures as well as the banking and handling of money at FOAH events.
Click here for a detailed description regarding officer roles.
Staff Representatives – acts as the link between school staff and the rest of the FOAH PTA, reporting back to staff after meetings on the outcome as well as bringing matters to the meeting brought up by staff.
Communications & Marketing Representative – responsible for updating the PTA noticeboard, updating the monthly bulletin, arranging publicity for events, writing reports after events.

Parent Representative – Makes sure messages to and from the FOAH Executive Committee are received in respective classes.
Events officer – co-ordinate and support event groups for local and school wide events.
In addition to the elected committee, it is valuable to the committee to have a pool of volunteers/helpers who are willing to support the work of the committee. Volunteers are very welcome to attend committee meetings but they would not have a vote; only elected committee (Ordinary and Officers) can vote.
P arent Community Representative (PCR) - supports the role of the primary and secondary representatives. They will be needed to convey any plans and ideas created by the FOAH Executive Committee to all the parents of the class or group they represent and vice-versa.
Some more groups may get formed as and when required.
